"I no longer identify as a 'man'. This is not to say I identify as a woman but I reject the dominant constructions of 'manhood' essentially as an embarrassment. "Be a MAN!" "I'm a Man!" "There's a point, as a man when..." Blechh!! To me manhood means caring about cars, beer, wrestling, and other dumb things. - it means a debilitating, if not outright paralyzing fear of appearing feminine to even the most minuscule extent. It means combating this relentless fear through ridiculous macho posturing that involves altering the way I walk, the language I speak (as it is necessary to learn a language of masculine ignorance), my politics and even the sound of my voice. It means taking pride in ignorance, as to be a 'man!@' is intrinsically invested in ignorance - a questioning of the construction of manhood or even of any of its component parts could lead to its disintegration. These are all things I find insulting yet central to a concept of 'man' - therefore I cannot accept such a label. Thanks."
